Contemporary Oedipus as a subject of ethical action

Annotation

This article reviews interpretations and presentations of the ancient Greek myth about King Oedipus as a subject of ethic action in his interaction with the secular and the divine. Throughout different epochs and within various cultural situations the image of Oedipus himself varies, both as a topic for philosophical comprehension and as a fictional character; the assessment of his ethic subjectivity and personal or metaphysical responsibility differs accordingly. And these differences illustrate the understanding of a person’s ethic subjectivity, as well as ethic ideas in general, within each era or cultural situation.
