Annotation

The article raises the question of the nature of the medium, its place in the triangle of sign, sense and meaning, and its relationship to traditional philosophical issues such as space, time, and transcendence, which refers to the relationship to the other or the external. The medium is devoid of meaning, but it is the use of the medium that allows something to acquire meaning, turning it into a sign. This demonstrates that the medium can carry a specific sense related to how the medium is used or, more specifically, how the use of material objects transforms them into a medium. The article shows that this use is a transformation, a change in the usual form of an object, which allows us to bring different things closer together and to contrast the familiar and the new. The change must allow for repetition, and whoever can reproduce this transformation of the medium acts as the subject of its interpretation, that is, the transformation of an object into a sign. The transformation of the medium introduces space into the field of vision, which is the paradoxical object of the medium, the primary meaning of transcendence that occurs through the medium. The article examines gesture, face, and line as examples of the medium. Since the exploration of space requires the establishment of a measure, we can speak of the measure as the primary articulation of meaning. The measure compensates for the lack of the measured object by the excess of what is accepted as the measure. The article demonstrates that this measure is not a thing, a difference, or an identity, but a form of balance and equilibrium between lack and excess.
