N. Ya. DANILEVSKY AND THE TRADITION OF SECULAR THEOLOGY IN RUSSIA
Annotation
The article analyzes the tradition of secular theology in Russia. Its origins are revealed, and
a classification of the main stages of development is given. One of the most striking episodes
in the development of secular theology on Russian soil is the concept of N.Ya. Danilevsky.
Danilevsky developed his concept within the framework of Orthodox theology, in a polemic
with Catholicism and its Russian followers. The most prominent adept of Catholicism on
Russian soil was V.S. Solovyov. Accordingly, N.Ya. Danilevsky’s theological concept was
personally directed against the latter’s ecclesiology («Vladimir Solovyov on Orthodoxy and
Catholicism», 1885). In the future, the followers of V.S. Solovyov did everything to ensure that
the theological concept of their idol’s opponent did not receive proper dissemination. It is time
to restore the violated justice.
