The article is devoted to the phenomenon of force as one of the principles—the beginning
of movement. The main interest is in the force of attraction. It is found that it is thought of in
unity with the target form of causality. Its most important properties, problems of its cognition
and connection with space are analyzed. It is considered how it was perceived in the physics of Aristotle and in modern European physics. The features of the physical approach to the
interpretation of forces are studied. The features of the ideas about attraction of the Galilean
and Newtonian directions in physics are compared.
