THE PROBLEM OF THE METHOD OF UNDERSTANDING LIFE AS A FORM OF HUMAN ANTHROPOLOGICAL UNITY (KANT, HEGEL)
Annotation
In the doctrine of the soul, Kant fixes the limits of mechanistic thinking in the field of cognition of the living. Life is not equal to organic unity. Even after comprehending all the causal relationships that bind organs into unity, we still will not understand the essence of life. To understand the essence of a person’s organic life and to reveal in concreteness the essence of the unity of his soul and body, is possible only based on the idea of the universal as mediating this unity principle. At the same time, the task is complicated by the fact that the idea of the universal must be revealed taking into account its moral dimension. Hegel solves this problem by mediating the connection of the organic expediency of the individual with the idea of the universal good (as the ultimate goal of all things and as the highest moral idea) through genesis in the realm of a logical “living concept” (R. Pippin’s formulation). Only a “living concept” is adequate to the idea of life as a form of human anthropological unity
