A DIALIOGUE ABOUT ESCAPISM BETWEEN L. N. TOLSTOY AND H THOREAU ON THE PAGES OF THE NOVEL “INTO THE WILD” BY J. KRAKAUER

Annotation

Contemporary American literature draws on the world experience of artistic and philosophical reflection. The documentary prose of Jon Krakauer is an excellent example of a combination of spiritual search and literary twists and turns. The hero of the novel seeks answers from literary classics and random fellow travelers, trying to find harmony with the world and himself. His escapism is not only an escape from society, it is a strategy for spiritual salvation in the modern world. The work examines the form of escape proposed by the author, characteristic of modern postsecular culture. The context for the study is a dialogue between: literature and philosophy, the age of industrialization and consumer society, the optimism of the 19th century and the pessimism of the modern century, represented by the reflections of L. N. Tolstoy, D. London, J. D. Salinger, G. Thoreau, J. Krakauer.
